The recent review of viable CDPs by the Department for Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs has resulted in their decision to cease funding for Edenmore CDP. A total of 31 CDPs were given this news on Monday 14th December. Edenmore CDP finds this decision to be misguided, poorly informed and short-sighted. We believe that the work carried out since 2007 has been testimony to the hard work of the Staff, volunteers and Voluntary Board of Management in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged within this community.
As the Department has established an Appeals Board, to which all CDPs may make a submission, Edenmore CDP is currently undertaking this process. The final date for submissions is Friday January 8th 2010. Decisions regarding the appeals are expected by the end of January 2010.
Any organisation or individual who has worked with, benefited from or may be negatively impacted by this decision is welcome to offer their support by penning a letter asking the Appeals Board to rescind the decision taken by the Department. The focus of any letter should address the 2 reasons given as to why funding should stop. These are:
'An issue of duplication with Kilbarrack And Kilmore West CDP and tangible benefit to the community is not demonstrated'
Please mark your letters FAO: CDP Appeals Board and forward them electronically to edenmorecdp@gmail.com by Thursday 7th January. We welcome any support provided at this stage and we will keep people updated on the outcome of the Appeal.
